Film v. Digital

I love comparing film and digital shots. All variables here have not been perfectly isolated, but it is interesting and fun all the same. For each pair, the top image is film, the bottom is digital. The film is most likely Fuji Velvia 100 or Kodak Ektachrome E100 VS, as those are what I was using this spring. I find I prefer the film shot for almost all of these, which is surprising to me since the digital is so smooth and real. What do you prefer?

I'm definitely attracted to more of the film images although all of them are beautiful!

  2. I'm a film shooter, but didn't expect to prefer your film shots by that much. However, the color balance and exposure range is so much nicer in your film images. My guess is that in the last pair the first is digital and second is film, as the green background is so much more vibrant in the second one while in the first image it's muddy.

Oh my! The film wins every time!

I must say the film ones are beautiful as are the digital but in the film the colour seems richer and so I'm drawn to those. As for the last two images I'm leaning towards the very last one being film due to the richer colours.

Two things coutch my eyes: the colors (specially the greens) in the second one are more organics and looks like the colors I have when shoot with Ektachrome VS 100 (that I love so much! :)

The bokeh (right above the flower)in the first one, is a little squared (octagonal) seems like the response in 1.8 – 2.2 apertures in digital camera lenses.

    Am I right?????

My guess is also that the first is digital and second is film. It seems the colors are more vibrant in film. Thank for this, it ws very interesting to see , I haven't shoot film like years:)
